Eroxon® contains no active pharmaceutical ingredient. Its listed ingredients — alcohol, water, glycerin, propylene glycol, carbomer, and potassium hydroxide — are inactive. The gel is applied to the glans (head) of the penis. As it evaporates, it produces a rapid cooling sensation followed by a slower warming effect. Those sensations stimulate nerve endings and increase local blood flow, which supports an erection.
This is a physical and sensory mechanism, not a chemical one. Because nothing is absorbed systemically, Eroxon® doesn’t carry the cardiovascular effects, drug interactions, or systemic side effects associated with oral PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil or tadalafil.
What the trials showed
In two clinical studies (FM57 and FM71), roughly 60% of men with mild, moderate, and severe ED experienced a clinically meaningful improvement in erectile function. FM71 compared Eroxon® directly to 5mg tadalafil over 24 weeks and found a statistically significant improvement — with a faster median time to erection than the tadalafil group.
Eroxon® was authorized through the FDA’s De Novo classification pathway in 2023 — the process used for novel, moderate-risk devices that have no prior equivalent on the market to compare against. It’s regulated as a medical device, not a drug, which is part of why it’s available without a prescription.
Because Eroxon® has no active pharmaceutical ingredient and isn’t absorbed systemically, it doesn’t carry the traditional drug-interaction profile that oral ED medications do — including the nitrate interaction that makes PDE5 inhibitors dangerous for some men. That said, this is a newer product without decades of real-world safety data behind it. Can Eroxon® be used with oral ED medications?
There’s no known pharmacological interaction, since Eroxon® has no active pharmaceutical ingredient and works through a physical sensory mechanism rather than a drug pathway. That said, combining any two ED approaches at once hasn’t been specifically studied together, so it’s worth mentioning to your physician if you’re planning to use both — more as a general good-practice check than because of a known chemical risk.
Will my partner be affected by Eroxon®?
Since Eroxon® contains no active pharmaceutical ingredient, there’s no drug for a partner to absorb through skin contact. The product literature recommends allowing the gel to absorb for a few minutes before contact, mainly for comfort and to let the sensory effect take hold, not because of a medication transfer risk.
